Re: rns 510 or rns 510 with dab
3 connections here so presume fm dab and gps?
Why would a phone kit need an aerial? its in the phone?

I'm probably being a div but thought there were four connections. So is it just fm/am in right door mirror? I've definitely got an aerial in that side. I'm going to investigate on etka later to see if that sheds any light!

So I need an am/fm for one mirror and fm2 in the other mirror, what about wires to run from mirrors to HU?

That's the bit I'm not sure about! Doubt the wiring will be there and haven't found the loom on etka yet.

Re: rns 510 or rns 510 with dab
I assume that's why the VW aerial is so expensive? 3 aerials in one?
Questions - If I fit the near side aerial - how can I get my phone connected to it, for a stronger signal? I'm bluetoothed from the factory - integral microphone in the headling etc with RCD310
Just a note to carp69 - if you are in Holmfirth I'd check out DAB reception (if you haven't already) before paying for a dab unit - it tends to be stronger in populous & flat land areas etc - in the wilds it can be dire and a waste of time. Where I live it keeps bombing in and out to FM and is just bloody annoying.

Oh this is a a good thread this
Ok so if I go dib dab in my van ( currently shity screen Arial which one do I need exactly
Also I presume you just need an extension cable with frac or what ever there called which you must be able to get of da web
Only you can get extension conversion to normal if you fit a roof mount Arial

Re: rns 510 or rns 510 with dab
Do you mean fakra?
On etka I found a wiring harness for the door which has dab listed. There are 2 versions, one for manual windows and the other for electric windows. Look to be about £40 for the looms. Doesn't look like any of it is available seperately.

2K5 971 121 M - electric windows

Re: rns 510 or rns 510 with dab
Just to complicate things, my aerial part numbers are different! Will need to check etka later but I've got
2k5 035 532 c right hand aerial
2k5 035 532 e left hand aerial
and a gps aerial in the left mirror too.
Just checked on my version of etka and those part numbers aren't recognised! I'll have to talk to the parts guy on monday and see if they come up on his system.
I assume as mine has gps that it has dab (all the aerial modules listed with gps on etka have dab also) but the radio won't display dab. I wonder if its just a coding thing and it can be activated in vcds.

Re: rns 510 or rns 510 with dab
I fitted a 310 DAB into my 2011.
Used the N/S mirror OEM aerial. It has 3 connections. GPS DAB Phone. Easy enough to install Aerial, but running the coax (Fakra) through the door bellow was a pig.
VW do not sell the cable, it comes complete with the whole loom which prob runs into £100's.
I made my own up in the end.
I ordered the ends online with cable and I have some crimping tool from telecoms work. I didn't have the right size collar crimpers but still works fine.
cable from a company called "modern radio"
connectors from "co-star components"
Only thing is in the bellow (between door and van body) there is a plug and socket type arrangement but also in that there are 4 holes. You have to feed the cable straight through one of these holes.
I'll see if i took any pics
